Hi there!
My name is Jillian River and I am a recently accepted graduate student in the field of Speech-Language Pathology. I use the pronouns they and them and identify as an agender person.
Thank you for visiting my site, on it you will find my accomplishments as a Speech-Language Pathology student, blog posts about SLP related topics as well as student life and other topics as they arise. I also am a cyclist and amateur artist so I may post about those topics occasionally.

Currently my interests lie in medical SLP with a focus on bilingual MedSLP. My interest in this field stems from a long history of partnering with non-native English speakers of all ages. The majority of my work experience has been spent in the non-profit sector partnering and providing resources to those who are marginalized in our communities and when working with these populations I endeavor to provide respect and actively listen. Medical SLP interests me as I enjoy being able to have a dialog with clients and being able to work with them to attain what might have been lost due to disorder or incident.

As a gender-diverse person I have noted the ways in which Speech-Language Pathology is shifting to attend to the needs of transgender and gender-diverse people and I welcome the shift. However, in my short time in the field I have also experienced ignorance, which is to be expected when individuals have not had the experience or benefit of working with a member of the transgender or gender-diverse community, whether as a client or coworker. I look forward to being that voice for clients and others like myself so that they may feel welcome and understood whether receiving treatment and services or interacting with other clinicians.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading, and thank you for your time in reviewing my CV [coming shortly].
